Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillacs Carry Momentum Into Road America

With two races remaining for Chip Ganassi Racing on the IMSA calendar, the team looks to score valuable points and close the deficit in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship standings.

The twin Cadillacs have led a resurgence of late. The No. 01 regiment led by Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande have secured 3 podiums and 2 wins while leading the most laps (153) in their past 4 races.

Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn have also been a formidable duo in the No. 02 this season, recording a podium finish in 3-of-8 races (37.5%) with an average finish of 3.6.

The group will return to the track for the first time since winning at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, where Bourdais and van der Zande stormed through the field from a starting position of P6. That’s the furthest back any race winner has started from so far this season.

CGR has had great success at Road America across IMSA competition, winning 5 races there, tied with Audi for the 2nd-most among entries in track history (Chevrolet Corvette: 8).

They’ll look to set themselves up for victory by securing their 5th pole position of the season, which would match the team’s 2nd-most poles secured in a single season (2004: 9; 2017/2016: 5).

With a win, Chip Ganassi Racing would tally their 5th season win for the first time since 2011.

“We’ve been running at the front, winning races, feeling strong. Renger put on an incredible performance at Mosport in really challenging conditions. He kind of went for it especially in traffic, which was really awesome. Looking forward to trying to repeat that at Road America. It’s a beautiful racetrack. I only managed to win there once in Champ Car days, but I have a lot of really good memories. It’s one of those places that is extremely rewarding if you get the lap right.”
