Putting the Wheels in Motion to Protect Our Home
Extreme E
Forged in 2018, Extreme-E set out to produce one of the world’s most thrilling off-road racing championships. In addition to the racing action, the series set its sights on combating the negative impacts from climate change in some of the most remote and challenging environments on the planet.
“Extreme-E started as a dream; born with the purpose of breaking the mold in motorsport and a vision of a lower carbon future,” said Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag. “It’s a race we can - and we must win, together.”
The series established three themes to enact positive change across the planet: action, impact and responsibility. One person who has been living by this example is Sara Price, co-driver of Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 99 GMC HUMMER EV. Price uses her platform to advocate for a cleaner world and encourage others to join her.
Just this past April, Sara teamed up with Extreme-E and The Nature Conservancy for the Legacy Project’s Cocoa Forest initiative in the Amazon Rainforest. The group is planting more than 1,000 tons of cocoa beans in Tucumã, which will increase food security for at least 50 families in the area. Their hard work is transforming the area with additional timber, fruit trees and crop species that will provide shade and soil nutrients for further development.
“Being involved in Extreme-E and getting these opportunities, I’m thinking about the environment from a new perspective and how I can not only improve the environment, but become a better person,” said Price.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 99 GMC HUMMER EV, co-driven by Price and Kyle LeDuc, is off to an impressive start to the 2022 season after securing a fourth-place finish (12 points) in the season opener in Neom, Saudi Arabia.
“I’m so proud of this team,” said Price after the season opener. “We’re happy to gain those valuable points and take a step toward a successful season. We’re here to win the championship.”
